Brussels Warns That the Conflict Between Poland and Ukraine is Not Helpful” And Serves Putin’s Interests

The European Commission has cautioned that the growing public dispute between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish President Karol Nawrocki threatens political unity and directly benefits Russia.

The Commission’s chief spokesperson, Paula Pinho, told reporters on Tuesday that “unity is our strongest tool and that anything that undermines that unity, including disputes, in this case, between a member state and Ukraine, is not helpful.” We shouldn’t be playing into the hands of the aggressor in Ukraine since there is only one happy observer in this kind of situation.

Since Zelenskyy signed an order in late May establishing a military unit after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), a decentralized guerrilla group established during World War II, tensions have quickly increased. In Ukraine, the UPA is respected for its fight for independence and resistance to the Soviet Union. However, the UPA is blamed in Poland for the Polish atrocities in Eastern Galicia and Volhynia, which Warsaw views as genocide.

As a “warning signal” to his counterpart, Poland’s nationalist president, Karol Nawrocki, declared on Friday that he would deprive Zelenskyy of Poland’s highest honor, the Order of the White Eagle.
