Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly on Wednesday Iran was a victim, not a perpetrator, of terrorism in a speech that fought back against US President Donald Trump’s threat a day earlier to “annihilate” the Islamic Republic. It was a very historic moment as foreign leader Pezeshkian addressed the world body while his country was at war with the host country.
He began by displaying photos of the children slain in the missile hit on the Shajarat al-Tayyiba school in Minab on the first day of the conflict, which killed 156 people, and of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was murdered in the same opening salvo. He also spoke of a US air strike on a sports hall on the same day.The US president called us terrorist. “We are victims of terrorism,” Pezeshkian stated. We simply want to live on our own. Are we the cause of instability? Those who commit terrorism and commit crimes, are they the protectors of peace and stability?
He accused the US and Israel of illegal attacks on Iranian population and infrastructure and stated that Iran only wanted military power for self-defence and had no intention of attacking other governments.
