Farage’s Opponents Will not Run in the Clacton by-Election

The Clacton by-election, which was prompted by Nigel Farage’s resignation, will not be contested by Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party, or Restore Britain. After announcing his resignation, the head of Reform UK declared that he will run for the Essex seat again in what he described as a “people versus the establishment” by-election.

Farage stated that the “people of Clacton should be the judge of my actions” in response to mounting financial scrutiny and a parliamentary investigation. Yvette Cooper, the foreign secretary, stated that the by-election “shouldn’t be happening” and charged Farage of using a “political tantrum” as a diversion.

She told BBC Breakfast, “Nigel Farage wants to avoid the rules that apply to everyone, so nobody is going to get sucked into what is a political stunt.” Rival parties are “running scared” of Farage, according to NReform home affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf. The only reason they are choosing not to field a candidate is because they know in their hearts that they have virtually no chance of beating him,” he said on the Today show on BBC Radio 4.
