North Korea has called the accusations “absurd rhetoric” and refuted suspicions that it was responsible for the record $6.3 billion (£4.7 billion) hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Kim Yo Jong, a senior official in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the sister of leader Kim Jong Un, stated on Tuesday that the charges are just another “sinister attempt” by the US to harm Pyongyang’s reputation. The breach, which has been dubbed the biggest in history, was planned by North Korea, according to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Secret Service, and cyber specialists.
North Korea has been accused of using cybercrime to fund its sanctioned economy, and this is the most recent hack to be connected to the country. According to the FBI and blockchain experts, the state-backed hacker collective TraderTraitor spearheaded the attack. The FBI has urged business associates to assist in stopping transactions using cryptocurrency accounts associated with the gang.In a statement, Kim Yo-jong, the head of North Korea’s General Affairs Department, said, “The US has made a trite provocation by linking it with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea again.”The US misleads the global public as though all cybercrimes in all parts of the world are our fault, which is a serious political provocation against the DPRK, she said.
