As Senators Wait, Trump May Withdraw Todd Blanche’s Nominee for Attorney General

As Todd Blanche’s confirmation seems to be blocked in the Senate, US President Donald Trump said he is thinking of pulling Blanche’s candidacy for attorney general. All Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee must approve Blanche, who has been serving in the capacity since April, in order for his confirmation to proceed.

However, due to the status of a contentious fund intended to recompense Trump friends, two senators, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and John Cornyn of Texas, whose terms both expire in January, are refusing to serve. If they don’t act morally, I don’t mind temporarily removing Todd’s name and reintroducing him once Cornyn and Tillis leave office,” Trump stated.

Earlier this year, a $1.8 billion (£1.3 billion) “anti-weaponization fund” was proposed to resolve Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) about the disclosure of his tax returns. It would have made it possible for Trump supporters to demand reimbursement for what they argue were politically motivated prosecutions by earlier administrations. Blanche, who negotiated the agreement, later withdrew it due to a bipartisan outcry. Separately, a federal judge expressed concerns that the fund violated ethical standards and prohibited it.
