Following a fatal shooting in Berngau, in the Upper Palatinate region of Germany, police have detained a suspected gunman. Officers broke into a home where the suspect had barricaded himself at around 2:20 in the morning. According to a police spokeswoman, “explosives” were used in the raid. The suspect was shot in the leg and suffered minor wounds.
During a normal weapons check, the 60-year-old is accused of shooting and killing a man and a female employee of the Neumarkt District Office. The representative stated that he is currently undergoing medical care.
Locals told the police they heard gunshots on Thursday at around 2:00 pm. Residents in the village’s close proximity as well as those in the surrounding area were instructed by police to stay inside their homes.
Initial reports state that the event happened while two Neumarkt district authority personnel were performing a standard firearms inspection. The shots are believed to have been fired as they were examining a male.
He then barricaded himself inside a building, according to the police. After encircling the location, special forces made an effort to negotiate and come up with a “non-violent solution.” But it seems that these attempts were futile.
