Hormuz Misunderstanding Increases as Iran and The United States Battle About Who Controls it

Both Iran and the United States are engaged in rapid-fire diplomatic engagements as peace talks to end the war progress, while confusion persists in the Strait of Hormuz due to conflicting reports on whether open marine navigation will resume without limitations.

Oman declared that it would develop a “temporary” toll-free marine transit corridor in collaboration with the International Maritime Organisation. Despite repeated US assurances that passage would return to normal after the war, Tehran maintained its claim to sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Donald Trump issued a new statement on Wednesday, claiming that Iran notified the US that there will be “no tolls, no insurance costs, and no other charges of any kind sought or received by Iran for travelling the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump reiterated that if Iran’s publicly stated contrary position were true, “negotiations would end immediately. The Washington-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated on Wednesday that “a reality in which Iran is able to manage traffic through the strait and collect related fees would constitute a significant strategic victory for Iran and give Iran substantial leverage over global commerce.
