Molotov Cocktail is Aimed at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s Residence

A 20-year-old guy was taken into custody by San Francisco police after a Molotov cocktail was hurled at OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s residence, igniting a perimeter gate. Early on Friday morning, police responded to a call in the city’s North Beach neighborhood.

A representative for OpenAI, the main artificial intelligence (AI) business behind ChatGPT, verified on Friday that the attack had taken place at Altman’s residence, even though SFPD did not name the guy or the attacked home.

The same individual “also made threats at our San Francisco headquarters,” according to a spokesman.Fortunately, nobody was harmed,” the spokesperson stated. “We deeply appreciate how quickly SFPD responded and the support from the city in helping keep our employees safe.”

By the time police arrived, the man had left Altman’s house, but an hour later, he appeared outside an OpenAI office and threatened to “burn down the building,” according to the police. After that, he was taken into custody.

An SFPD officer stated that it was “an active and open investigation” and declined to comment on whether the individual was still under arrest as of Friday afternoon or whether and when he would face criminal charges.
