The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) of Germany estimates that 2.86 million VW and Audi cars worldwide may experience steering failure due to a damaged screw. Under certain conditions, a bolt holding the steering gear in place may fail due to rust. In the worst situation, this can result in a loss of steering control and raise the possibility of an accident. The issue is now listed as “under investigation” on the authority’s website, indicating that a final evaluation is still waiting.
The Audi Q3, VW Golf, Golf Variant, Tiguan, Touran, and Caddy are among the cars in question. After internal checks revealed that road salt and other environmental factors could corrode a screw holding the steering mechanism in some Q3 cars over a number of years, Audi said that it had initiated a “precautionary recall”. According to the business, the steering system may be harmed if the corrosion worsens.
Audi Q3 models with a particular steering system and front-axle subframe combination that were produced between October 31, 2017, and May 23, 2024, are among the impacted automobiles. According to Audi, clients would receive a free repair that might take up to an hour.
