Captain Rodri has emphasized what he feels has been essential to La Roja’s success just hours before Spain takes on Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final: the close communication between head coach Luis de la Fuente and his players.
Spain’s journey to the final, according to Rodri, was the outcome of “a very long and very beautiful process, a slow maturation” that was based on the coach’s early faith in the team. The midfielder for Manchester City also discussed how he has recovered from a severe injury that occurred eighteen months ago.
Rodri warned that Spain must concentrate only on Lionel Messi ahead of the final matchup with Argentina, pointing out that the defending world champions are formidable on all fronts. Messi is only one aspect of Argentina. They are the squad to defeat because they are the current champions,” he stated.
“The further he is from the penalty area, the better,” the midfielder said, acknowledging Messi’s importance. However, Messi does more than simply score goals; you have to watch him in almost every part of the field as he directs the play and appears between the lines.
