Following her unsuccessful execution, US murderer Christa Pike is still in serious condition in the hospital, and her prognosis is still unknown, according to her attorney on Sunday. Stephen Ferrell, Pike’s attorney, told CNN on Sunday morning that medical professionals were still attempting to remove two doses of pentobarbital from her body.
Pike, 50, was found guilty of killing Colleen Slemmer in 1995 and given the death penalty. She was taken to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, after escaping two attempts at execution on Wednesday.
Ferrell stated: “She’s still in the hospital, on a ventilator, critically ill, we really don’t know the prognosis yet, and may not know for several days. He added that instead of speaking with doctors directly, he had been getting information via her medical power of attorney and that he didn’t think she had ever regained consciousness.
He hasn’t visited her. “She is cautious. He remarked, “I’m not sure who might have seen her.” The authorities have not yet stated if they will attempt Pike’s execution once more. They also have not explained what went wrong. However, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee halted all executions for the remainder of the year, and the state’s prison chief announced his resignation on Saturday.
