What is Included in The Current US-Iran Agreement?

According to a White House official who spoke to the BBC, an agreement between the United States and Iran to prolong their truce has been inked and is currently in force. While visiting the G7 conference in Evian-les-Bains, France, President Donald Trump formally signed the agreement, which is expected to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

The Memorandum of Understanding, a 14-point deal, states that Iran would never possess a nuclear weapon and pledges a $300 billion fund for the nation’s “reconstruction and economic development” (though the US is not obligated to pay). Four months have passed since the start of the battle between the nations and Israel. The Trump administration has characterized the agreement as “performance-based,” meaning Iran will only gain from it if it fulfills its obligations.

Here is what we know about some of the main topics, even if the deal’s language leaves many questions unanswered and many important matters unresolved. A representative for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Wednesday that “necessary measures will be taken” and that any continuation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon would be a “violation of the understanding”.
