A 16-year-old shot and murdered three children and a teacher at a primary school in the US state of Oregon before he was killed by a bystander, authorities said. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said the suspect, whose name has not been released, entered Silver Rail Elementary School in the city of Bend Thursday afternoon by firing locked doors.
A community member “chased him into the school and engaged him,” Krantz claimed, and the teen was killed. Three minutes later the cops arrived. The three youngsters that died were five, eight and 11. A seven-year-old and a 54-year-old instructor were brought to hospital in a critical condition.
It wasn’t apparent if the perpetrator had any connection to the school.“We are just stunned, heartbroken by this senseless tragedy,” Steven Cook, the top administrative officer of the local school district, said in a statement. Our community is in mourning and we are unable to put into words what we are feeling. The assailant was named by police as a 16-year-old local teenager but no other details about him or the victims were released.
