Leaders in Lithuania and Latvia Warn that Russia is Preparing infrastructure Attacks on Poland or the Baltics

The presidents of Lithuania and Latvia issued a warning on Wednesday, citing intelligence reports, that Russia is preparing assaults on vital infrastructure in Poland or the Baltic nations. At a joint press conference in Vilnius with his Latvian counterpart, Edgars Rinkevics, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated, “We are talking about energy and transport infrastructure, facilities where damage could disrupt the functioning of the entire energy system.

The greatest level of planning is happening, essentially in Moscow,” he continued. As Russia tries to “test” the alliance’s mutual defense treaty amid its war in Ukraine, Rinkevics cautioned that all EU and NATO countries, including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, must be ready for provocative moves. Officials from Poland and the Baltics have previously connected Russia to a number of incidents, such as cyberattacks, arson, and railway line diversions.

According to the president of Lithuania, in reaction to the threats, his nation has increased security for its energy and transportation infrastructure. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, refuted the allegations. He claimed, “This is just another round of scare stories meant to maintain brainwashing and get the populace ready for more militarization.
