Volkswagen employees have strongly criticized the company’s management amid mounting concern about potential job cutbacks and the future of key German operations. Volkswagen’s works council organized the consultation ahead of a series of meetings between senior executives and employees.
CEO Oliver Blume and other board members will begin a tour of Volkswagen sites this week for meetings with employees, and executives are expected to provide preliminary answers to questions and responses to criticism during the nine extraordinary works meetings, the first of which will be held on Tuesday, August 25 in Wolfsburg.
It will be followed by others at locations such as Emden, Zwickau, and Braunschweig before concluding in Hannover on August 31. Volkswagen is seeking more cost savings as it grapples with tough Chinese competition, weakening demand, and US tariffs.
In a separate intranet message seen by AFP on Sunday, Blume said: “The situation is more than critical,” adding that the firm was not making enough money to “ensure we have the means over the long term for new technologies, new products, and our locations.
