US President Donald Trump has announced that US peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Kyiv and Moscow this weekend with a “proposal to end the war,” in an effort to break the diplomatic impasse surrounding the conflict in Ukraine.

In what will be their first trips to the Ukrainian capital since Trump’s return to the White House in January of last year, the two are scheduled to arrive in Moscow on Saturday and travel to Kyiv on Sunday. In a post on X, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, confirmed the scheduled visit.
Zelenskyy wrote, “We must find practical ways to bring this war to a close. “We’ll see what suggestions Steve and Jared make and how Moscow responds. The “normal functioning of Russian airspace” will be maintained by Ukrainian forces, he continued, so that the envoys could travel to Moscow without incident.
On Tuesday, Zelenskyy issued a warning to insurers and airlines that Russian airspace would “effectively be closing” because flying would be dangerous owing to the scope of Ukrainian drone operations.
However, the Ukrainian leader called on Moscow to refrain from striking while Witkoff and Kushner were in the country.They are the ones we are watching out for, not Russia. He posted on social media, There will be no airstrikes from our side, and Russia must do the same, making sure there are no airstrikes from its side for the time needed to hold these talks and handle the logistical matters related to this American visit.
