On Sunday, French diesel prices reached a new high of €2.41 per litre, according to an AFP study. The European Commission said that EU fuel and diesel prices reached record highs last week. Prices at the pump have risen significantly since the United States and Israel launched their war against Iran in February, with increased strife in Yemen and strikes on Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure exacerbating the trend in recent days.
The average price at 10.30 a.m. CEST was estimated by the news agency using prices listed by more than 8,700 petrol stations on the economy ministry’s website, exceeding the previous record established the day before.
SP95-E10, France’s best-selling fuel, was over €2.17 per litre on Sunday morning, according to prices posted by more than 6,700 petrol stations. It has remained above its 2022 top for more than ten days. SP98 also exceeded the average of €2.28 on Sunday, according to prices published by over 6,800 gas stations.
Last week, France remained one of the most costly fuel-consuming countries in the European Union. The average fuel price was €2.29 on September 14, according to the European Commission’s weekly data release. Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Finland had the highest fuel and diesel costs at the time.
