Pakistani Man Gets Death for Killing Teen TikTok Star

A Pakistani court has condemned a man to death for murdering a teenage social media star, a killing that triggered outrage across the country. Umar Hayat, 21, shot killed 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousaf after she repeatedly turned down his advances when he broke into her home in June.

Hayat, now 23, pleaded guilty in July, telling police he had formed a one-sided obsession with Yousaf after interacting online. Yousaf’s father, Syed Yousaf The Islamabad court’s sentence was “a lesson for all such criminals in society”, Hassan added, local media reported. The court also ordered Hayat to pay 2.5m rupees ($9,000; £6,700) as compensation to Yousaf’s family.

Hayat told investigators he had gone to Islamabad days ahead of the killing to wish Yousaf a happy birthday. Yousaf refused to see him but he managed to get to her home where the two had an altercation which culminated into the killing, Pakistani media said.

Before her death, Yousaf had over a million followers on TikTok and half a million more on Instagram. Her light-hearted material, such as trying on fashion trends, lip-syncing to music and hanging out with pals, was enjoyed by fans.
