A Yacht That Caught fire in the English Channel Resulted in the Rescue of more Than 170 Homeless People

On Tuesday, authorities in both France and the United Kingdom announced that a significant rescue operation was carried out in order to assist more than 170 individuals who were attempting to cross from France to the United Kingdom. Since records beginning in 2018, it was one of the largest operations of its kind that had ever been conducted.

A fire broke out in the engine of the inflatable boat while it was still in the French search and rescue zone, which caused the vessel to start disintegrating, according to the marine prefecture for the English Channel and the North Sea. The Pas-de-Calais prefecture provided additional information by stating that the incident “forced its occupants to jump into the water.”

This was followed by the deployment of two rescue vessels, a navy helicopter, and medical teams by the French government. In addition, the United Kingdom Border Force and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), which is a charitable organization that specializes in maritime rescue, participated in the operation.

In the course of the incident, nobody was killed. A total of 103 individuals were recovered by French troops, while the remaining 54 individuals were saved by British crews. Everyone was brought ashore at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer so that they could receive assistance and medical care that they needed. According to French authorities and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the boat had departed from the village of Veules-les-Roses in Normandy at approximately six in the morning. Rescue agencies from France kept a close eye on it from the minute it took off till it returned.
