Swiss Police Arrest Suspect in Deadly Rave Shooting

Swiss police reported on Monday the arrest of a 43-year-old man following a fatal shooting at a rave in northern Switzerland. The incident resulted in the death of an Italian citizen and left several other young individuals injured.

The Aargau Cantonal Police earlier reported that one person had been killed and five others wounded when shots rang out at the event in the town of Aarau, a picturesque region famed for its verdant valleys, medieval castles, and thermal springs.

Investigators are still examining the sequence of events, the background, and the possible motive. At this point, it is believed there was one perpetrator,” the police stated in an update after the suspect was taken into custody.

Police reported that a 22-year-old woman died at the scene, and four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, are receiving hospital treatment for injuries that vary from minor to severe. My thoughts also go to the other injured, including two Italian citizens, and to all those involved in this tragic incident,” she said in a statement, adding that they trust the Swiss authorities to “fully investigate the incident and identify those responsible.” Police said the shooting occurred at the town’s Schachen horse racing track. Social media posts from the event organizers say that a rave was being held at the venue at the time.
