In an Attempt to Save Expenses, Jaguar Land Rover Eliminates 4,000 Workers Globally

Over the next two years, Britain’s largest automaker intends to eliminate nearly one in ten jobs globally. As part of a strategy to slash expenses and bolster its finances, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will eliminate almost 4,000 jobs worldwide, the firm announced on Monday. The company, which employs over 43,000 people globally, stated that the voluntary redundancy program would prioritise managerial and salaried positions above direct production jobs.

According to a statement by chief executive PB Balaji, “the automotive industry faces significant challenges, with technological change amid intense competition and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.”The first 100,000 cars built in the UK that are exported to the US annually are subject to a 10% tariff under a trade agreement between the two countries. The higher US tariff rate applies to vehicles that exceed that quota.

A significant cyberattack in 2025 also caused disruptions to JLR’s business, forcing them to halt production at its UK factories for a few weeks. The majority of the firm’s vehicles are produced in UK factories by Tata Motors, an Indian company. The company employs about 34,000 people in the nation, and the most of the job cutbacks are anticipated to impact its operations in the UK. However, the company has not revealed how it will distribute the proposed layoffs across countries.
