Zelenskyy Anticipates a Meeting With Trump in Late September as Kyiv Demands New Negotiations on Air Defence

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, said Tuesday that he expects to meet Donald Trump, the president of the United States, before the end of September as Washington intensifies efforts to resume talks to halt Russia’s full-scale invasion. Zelenskyy stated that obtaining more US air defence missiles would be a major topic of discussion during the conference, with Kyiv requesting an urgent “winter package” of anti-ballistic missile interceptors.

Zelenskyy told reporters in the presidential WhatsApp chat that he spoke with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about Ukraine’s lack of sophisticated air defences while they were in Kyiv over the weekend.

Zelenskyy stated, “I am counting on a meeting with President Trump, raising this issue, and, God willing, there will be a result.”According to the Ukrainian president, Kyiv clearly told Witkoff and Kushner what it wanted from a US “winter package” and when it would need the weaponry.

“We discussed the shortage we feel with regard to the winter package, a package of anti-ballistic missiles, with Witkoff and Kushner,” he stated. We require ballistic missile bundles from the Americans till we achieve this outcome. They paid close attention to what we needed and when.
