Houthis of Yemen Say They Shot Down a Saudi fighter Jet, but They Deny going After Mecca

On Wednesday, the Houthis in Yemen claimed to have shot down a Saudi fighter jet using weapons manufactured by the group. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said on social media that Saudi Arabia had launched 450 strikes and that “the Yemeni Armed Forces, with Allah’s aid and grace, succeeded in shooting down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet while it was carrying out hostile operations.”

He claimed that “using a locally made air-to-air missile” was used to target the aircraft.
Additionally, the spokesperson denied Saudi allegations that the Houthis had attacked Mecca, the holiest city of Islam.

He stated that “fabrications and lies propagated by the criminal al-Saud regime cannot deceive anyone” and that “our operations target its oil facilities and military bases, which are far removed from the sacred sites.” sites was a “red line” and promised reprisal.
