A judge is set to deliberate this week on how long a former chef should be jailed, with relatives of those who died after buying poisonous chemicals from the Canadian poison salesman likely to give evidence in court.
Justice Michelle Fuerst has reserved four days in a Newmarket, just north of Toronto, courtroom to hear victim impact statements and other evidence. It is not yet clear when she will pronounce her sentence.
Law pleaded guilty in May to helping 14 individuals in Canada die by suicide. Prosecutors dismissed murder charges saying they did not have enough evidence to convict him over the online forums where he instructed individuals on how to commit suicide.
Law, who stated under an agreed statement of facts signed by both sides that he sought out buyers by posting on a suicide discussion group under a fictitious name and offered lethal goods for sale. His parcels were despatched to buyers in at least 41 countries, including China, France and Brazil, with 330 sent to the United Kingdom.
