Dubai placed a calculated wager 25 years ago. It urged the world’s media to make the city their regional home, set aside property, and established a regulatory framework. It was a declaration of confidence at the time regarding the potential contribution of an open and linked media environment to the growth of a nascent economy.
The outcomes are quantifiable twenty-five years later. The media industry’s share of Dubai’s GDP increased to 1.42% in 2025, media exports reached US$25 million in 2025, and yearly foreign direct investment in the industry increased to US$1.62 billion in 2024. There are about 25,000 private media enterprises in Dubai that employ 120,000 people, including creatives and media professionals from one of the region’s most diverse talent pools. What started off as an invitation has grown into a business.
That goal becomes a topic of discussion at the Arab Media Summit. An Arab Media Forum, a Government Communication Forum, a Youth Forum, a Films Forum, a Games Forum, Dubai PodFest, a summit for social media creators and influencers, and international forums organised with international partners are just a few of the specialised forums covering the entire range of contemporary media. Meanwhile, the 25th edition of the Arab Media Award is underway.
