After sharing a map that shows the vital waterway as “new American territory” on the Truth Social platform, US President Donald Trump has reiterated his suggestion for the Strait of Hormuz’s destiny. However, he did not comment on the image.
Trump previously released a map of the Strait of Hormuz on August 18, so this is not the first time he has done so. On August 15, the US president first proposed that the strait be considered US territory.At a rally in New York, Trump declared, “I will soon announce that the Strait of Hormuz will be land belonging to the United States after we finish defeating Iran, which is suffering a very severe defeat.”
One of the world’s most significant shipping channels, the Strait of Hormuz handled about one-fifth of the world’s shipments of liquefied natural gas and crude oil before the conflict began. Trump claims that the United States “fully controls” the route, despite Iran’s insistence that it has established authority over the strait.
Since the start of the war, Tehran has kept the strait closed, and its disagreement with Washington over the terms of its reopening is still ongoing. In a comparable occurrence, the US state of California was previously referred to as “new land belonging to Iran” in an official Iranian account.
