As he approaches close elections, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu further distanced himself from President Donald Trump by rejecting the most recent US blueprint approved by Hamas to begin the second phase of the Gaza peace plan. In response to opposition from his right-wing supporters, Netanyahu openly opposed the plan after more than a week of progressively intensifying criticism.
According to the Israeli government, the Islamist Hamas must be “genuinely” disarmed before Israeli forces can leave the Gaza Strip. Benjamin Netanyahu stated during a cabinet meeting that Israel rejects the 15-point document presented at the end of July by Donald Trump’s Peace Council.” According to Netanyahu, there would be “no withdrawal as long as Hamas is not genuinely disarmed and will continue to thwart threats against our forces and our citizens.
The Israeli prime minister referred to Trump as “our greatest friend in the White House but quickly made clear he was willing to challenge him,” despite their growing disagreement over Iran. He claimed that Israel was voicing its concerns to the US about the Gaza proposal. They have opinions, some of which we agree with and others of which we don’t, and we know how to defend our positions on these issues,” he stated.
