The suspected head of an Irish organised criminal group was extradited to Ireland from Dubai to answer allegations that he oversaw a global network of money laundering and drug smuggling that extended to the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
After courts in the United Arab Emirates declined to prevent his extradition, an Irish Air Corps aircraft that had taken off from Dubai on Sunday nite landed at a military airstrip outside of Dublin, the capital of Ireland, according to Air Tracker data.
Daniel Kinahan, 49, is reportedly on board the aircraft. He is anticipated to be brought straight to Dublin’s Special Criminal Court, where he will be charged with leading an organized crime ring. All cases involving organized crime and terrorism, as well as those in which prosecutors feel the regular courts are unable to guaranty the “effective administration of justice, are heard by the Special Criminal Court, which is composed of three judges without a jury.
According to reports, extensive security measures were in place to guaranty that Kinahan would be held accountable. Armed police, military personnel, and the prison service which just purchased a bombproof escort van to carry terrorists, organized crime suspects, and other high-risk inmates are among the protocols.
