Five individuals were hurt in a stabbing at New York City’s Penn Station, officials said. The stabbing resulted in one major injury, two moderate injuries, and the remaining minor injuries, according to a statement released to US media by the New York Fire Department.
The perpetrator was caught by the New York Police Department following a manhunt after the attack, which occurred approximately 19:00 EST (0:00 BST). The stabbing occurs as the city ramps up security measures ahead of US President Donald Trump’s arrival on Monday to see the New York Knicks in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals.
According to law officials, the stabbing was an act of random violence. According to ABC News, Amtrak cops arrested the man when he became emotionally disturbed. The fire department reported that those injured in the incident were transferred to Bellevue Hospital. Penn Station in New York is located immediately beneath Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks will face the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday evening.
Ahead of the game, city officials announced enhanced security measures, including a no-bag prohibition and the cancellation of a watch party outside the arena owing to Trump’s attendance. Mayor Zohran Mamdani will also attend.
