King Charles to Disclose his Personal Tax Bill as Monarch for the First Time

King Charles is to become the first king in modern Britain to disclose his own tax bill.
His tax payments will be included as a new feature in the yearly royal financial statements on Thursday, with the decision said by Palace sources to be a personal one by the King.

The move is part of a modernising drive for better openness and to “promote wider understanding of our accountability”, Buckingham Palace said. It also follows requests for increased transparency over royal finances after controversies involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The action will reveal the King’s tax payments for the previous year – 2024-25 – and will include tax on his income including revenues from the Duchy of Lancaster, any personal investments and earnings from the King’s own estates, such as Sandringham and Balmoral.

“It was part of a wider drive to be more open with the public,” a spokesman for Buckingham Palace said.
To put it simply, we continue to modernise and evolve,” they added, with a promise to a yearly disclosure of the King’s taxes. When he was Prince of Wales, Charles also stated how much tax he was paying.
