On October 27, Israel Will Have Elections That Are Seen as a Verdict on Netanyahu’s Leadership

Israel’s national elections will take place on October 27, the penultimate day permitted by law, according to the country’s parliament. Since the start of the Gaza conflict in 2023, many have viewed the poll as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership.

The ruling coalition will be able to serve a full four-year term for the first time in decades when the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, ends its current term on July 17.There is no need to pass a Knesset Dissolution Law in the conventional sense because the current Knesset is anticipated to serve out its whole term and the next general election is already scheduled by law for October 27 with no intention of reducing the legislature’s lifespan,” the parliament stated.

Having held the position for several times, 76-year-old Netanyahu is already the nation’s longest-serving prime minister. He has stated that he plans to run once more. In an effort to strengthen his coalition and head into the election in a strong position, Netanyahu’s government—one of the most right-wing combinations in the nation’s history has been rushing to enact a number of measures.

Last month, the Israeli prime minister declared his intention to “establish a broad national government, not a right-wing, not a left-wing government that depends on Arab parties, but a broad national government.
