Prior to Xi’s visit to Washington, China Imposes Export Restrictions on US Companies

China has declared a number of economic sanctions on the US, such as restrictions on drone exports and prohibitions on transactions with six US companies. Ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s anticipated September visit to the US, tensions are building between the world’s two largest economies.

This occurs in spite of indications of improving relations during his May meetings with US President Donald Trump in Beijing. The sanctions, according to China’s Commerce Ministry, are a reaction to recent US actions, such as the US Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) ban on Chinese drone imports and the Department of Homeland Security’s decision to add 43 Chinese businesses to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act entity list, which prohibits imports of goods manufactured using forced labor.

“Seriously violate the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and severely damage China’s legitimate rights and interests,” the ministry said in a statement.
China is forced to respond with the appropriate countermeasures. Beijing called on Washington to abandon its actions and stop its “erroneous practices” and claimed it was exercising caution.
