Plans to prevent vapes from being promoted to youngsters have been revealed as part of a UK-wide consultation to introduce plain packaging, ban the use of seductive flavor descriptions, and keep vapes out of sight in stores.
According to Health Secretary James Murray, too many young people are being drawn into experimentation. Ideas require boring packaging, with restrictions on the use of graphics and branding.
Names related to candy, sweets, desserts, and alcohol would be prohibited in order to make them less enticing to minors. According to health experts, there is no logical need for nicotine products to be packaged in fluorescent colors, include cartoon images, or employ flavors and branding designed to capture a child’s attention.
Murray stated: “The evidence is clear: there are too many young people experimenting with vapes, attracted by the array of flavours, bright colours and marketing displays.”To prevent children from becoming addicted to vapes, we need to take action now.Vapes are less dangerous than cigarettes and can help adult smokers stop, but they should never be made or promoted in ways that appeal to youngsters.
