Mendy Chitrik, the head of the Alliance of Rabbis in Islamic States (ARIS), commended Qatar’s leadership for receiving a delegation of rabbis on Monday during a condolence visit to the emir. He said the gathering demonstrated friendship, respect for one another, and the value of intercommunal communication. Following the death of the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Rabbi Chitrik and other rabbis met with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Monday to express condolences.
Rabbi Chitrik told Euronews following the meeting that the team had come to Doha to offer condolences to the Emir, the ruling family, and the people of Qatar, as well as to thank the nation for supporting its Jewish community.In the Emir’s presence today, we felt incredibly welcome,” he remarked. “Hearing the words of comfort, hearing the words of friendship and feeling the brotherhood that has always existed.”
“Friendship is put to the test during times of war and struggle. “We support our friends and partners here in Qatar by being here at this time,” Rabbi Chitrik continued. According to Rabbi Chitrik, ARIS represents rabbis who serve about 110,000 Jews in 18 nations with a majority of Muslims.
