Following recent Russian airstrikes on Ukraine, the European Union has placed sanctions on five members of Russia’s military-industrial complex, the bloc’s foreign policy leader Kaja Kallas announced on Friday.
Kallas commented on X, “Every new attack on Ukraine is another reason for Europe to tighten the screws on Russia.” Kallas stated that the new sanctions were implemented on August 7 in reaction to the strikes, but she did not name the targets or offer more information about the actions.
According to Kallas, while Russian forces continued to stagnate on the battlefield, Moscow was intensifying its strikes on people. The package, which was approved on July 23, added 170 businesses and 48 people to the EU sanctions list, making it the biggest listings since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In addition to cryptocurrency networks, the shadow fleet used to get around oil restrictions, and businesses that fuel Moscow’s war economy, the sanctions target Russia’s banking, energy, and military-industrial sectors. 37 people and organizations directly connected to the manufacturing and supply chain of long-range drones are among the 56 lists in the bundle that target Russia’s military-industrial complex.
