Trump’s Ballroom Proposal is Halted by a US Appeals Court, setting up a Supreme Court Confrontation

The Trump administration has ordered construction on President Donald Trump’s $400 million (£297 million) ballroom at the White House to cease. Trump’s presidential power was put to the test on Friday as a federal appeals court handed down the most recent blow to the contentious project. He has promised to file an appeal with the Supreme Court. The majority of the group stated that Congress should decide whether or not to build a large ballroom, not the executive branch.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit after the administration demolished the East Wing last year to start the project without congressional approval. The order upholds a preliminary injunction. “Congress has not ceded unfettered authority to the Executive Branch to dramatically redesign, reshape, and reconstruct the White House – the People’s House – to fit a particular President’s desires,” the panel stated.

In a 2-1 ruling, the three-judge panel declared that “each President is a temporary tenant, not the owner, of the White House and its Executive Residence.”The property is intended and maintained for the use of all Presidents, present and future, as well as the American people, and the President has no constitutionally granted jurisdiction over it, the opinion stated.
